Location
Our location at the Coal Canyon/Spearhead Trails trailhead in Grundy, Va., makes us the ideal location for ATV/OHV and mountain bike enthusiasts to stay and enjoy their time riding the trails before returning in the evenings to enjoy time in the cabins or at the campgrounds with family and friends. Please do not trust your GPS to get you here, as some GPS systems and mapping services route you to the wrong location. Please use the directions provided below, or if you need something more specific, please call us at 276-244-1111 and we will be happy to assist you. Please be especially aware of a road closure coming to our location from Kentucky. See below for two alternate options to get here!

Turn-by-Turn Directions:
From Rt. 19 at Claypool Hill, VA: Travel on U.S. Rt. 460W to the intersection with VA83W/Lover's Gap Road (30.4 mi.); turn left on Rt. 83/Lover's Gap Rd. Travel 4.1 miles to the intersection with Rt. 744, Southern Gap Road, turn right. Travel 2.3 miles to Chipping Sparrow Road. Turn left to arrive at the campground.
From Grundy: Travel on U.S. Route 460E to the intersection with VA83W/Lover's Gap Road; turn right on Rt. 83/Lover's Gap Rd. Travel 4.1 miles to the intersection with Rt. 744, Southern Gap Road, turn right. Travel 2.3 miles to Chipping Sparrow Road. Turn left to arrive at the campground.
From the Kentucky State Line: There is a road closure on Rt. 604, which impacts your ability to access our location from there if that's the usual route you take. Instead, there are two options -- the first is to bypass Rt. 604 and continue on Rt. 460 east to the intersection of Rt. 83 at Vansant, turn right and then head up the mountain to the intersection with Rt. 744, Southern Gap Road, and follow it to our location on the left past Poplar Gap Park.
With the new road on the gap now open, another option to access our location coming from the west is to travel on Rt. 460 East out of Pikeville, Ky., to the intersection with Rt. 80 east. Turn right and follow Rt. 80 east to KY Rt. 3174 (watch for a left turn after the DoubleKwik, after you go under the new bridge being constructed). Follow that road as it turns into Rt. 460 east crossing into Virginia. As you get closer to Southern Gap, you will see a flashing sign alerting you to a detour and telling you all vehicles must turn right. Turn right at that intersection and you will be on Rt. 744. Follow it for 1.5 miles to the entrance of Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure, turn right and you're here!
