Cabins
In keeping with the coal heritage of Buchanan County, Va., where Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure is located, each of our cabins is named after a coal seam found in the region. Below you will find a brief description of that history, information about individual cabin amenities and bed configurations, as well as interior and exterior photos of each cabin.

The Elkhorn seam occurs intermittently along ridge top crests and has been recovered more in the far northern and western parts of Buchanan County through surface mining ridge removal operations. Mineable seam thicknesses are generally around three feet. Utilization of Elkhorn seam coal has been primarily in steam coal markets which generate electricity and the industrial fuel products sector. |
