Southern Gap Outdoor Offers Something For Everyone
NOTE: If you are traveling to our location from the west, we wanted to alert you to the opening of the new road on the gap: coming from the west, travel on Rt. 460 East out of Pikeville, Ky., to the intersection with Rt. 80 east. Turn right and follow Rt. 80 east to KY Rt. 3174 (watch for a left turn after the DoubleKwik, after you go under the new bridge being constructed). Follow that road as it turns into Rt. 460 east crossing into Virginia. As you get closer to Southern Gap, you will see a flashing sign alerting you to a detour and telling you all vehicles must turn right. Turn right at that intersection and you will be on Rt. 744. Follow it for 1.5 miles to the entrance of Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure, turn right and you're here!

Whether you are looking for a place to kick back and relax, a place to see nature at her best to include opportunities to see Virginia majestic elk herd, or somewhere to get your adrenaline pumping as you check out the more than 200 miles – 7,900 acres – of ATV/mountain bike trails experience all around us, Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure is just the place for you!
Nestled in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia and located at the trailhead for the Spearhead Trails Coal Canyon ATV/OHV/Mountain Bike Trail, Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure is a campground with cabins, full hook-up pull-through RV sites and tent sites. Overnight and day visitors have plenty of opportunities to enjoy easy access to ATV/OHV and mountain bike riding experiences on the Coal Canyon trail. The trail now connects with Spearhead Trails Ridgeview Trail, providing riders with connected access to the trails leading to ATV-friendly towns, Grundy and Haysi. Our standard cabins sleep 7-10 people. Our campground offers full hook-up RV sites and primitive tent camping. A bathhouse further complements the campground, offering showers, a vending area, laundry and restrooms for the comfort of our guests. A 7,500-square-foot visitor center offers video and wildlife displays; an observation deck featuring panoramic views of Southwest Virginia’s beautiful mountain region; a gift shop featuring camping supplies, SGOA logo items; and local arts and crafts. A Legacy Bank ATM machine is located in the gift shop/camp store for the convenience of our guests.
